Elementary Schools
The elementary program provides 4th, 5th, and 6th grade students from the four elementary school districts with drug prevention assemblies.
Live Smart Assemblies
4th and 5th Grade Students
Live Smart assemblies are conducted at 36 elementary schools throughout the Santa Clarita Valley reaching approximately 6,000 students. The Live Smart assemblies are student’s first introduction to the Drug Free Youth in Santa Clarita Valley (DFY in SCV) program. Students are introduced to life skills concepts such as making good choices, handling peer pressure, and developing refusal skills, along with understanding the consequences of edibles, vaping, and alcohol. Live Smart assemblies are held in the fall and winter.
Rise Above Risks Assemblies
6th Grade Students
6th-grade students will attend their Rise Above Risks assemblies as a field trip to their future junior high school. During the visit, students will tour their new school, meet the Principal, receive information on making good choices, peer pressure, and refusal skills, as well as the consequences of opioids, prescription drugs, vaping, and edibles.
Students will also be introduced to the DFY in SCV program, preparing them to participate in the club when they enter junior high school. In March, staff conduct seventeen drug awareness assemblies reaching approximately 3,000 students from the four elementary school districts.
Junior High & High Schools
Both the junior high and high Schools include a peer-led club where students plan monthly activities and events to promote a drug-free lifestyle. These activities are held during lunchtime on campus. Additionally, club officers participate in the annual X-Week activities and the Leadership Conference.
Mindful Moments Series
Mindful Moments Series is a three day campaign featuring drug awareness activities held during lunchtime to raise awareness about the dangers of drugs and to encourage students to be mindful about the decisions they make. The activities are led by Club officers and members.
Leadership Conference
In October, the Junior High and High School Leadership Conference are held on separate days. These annual events provide club officers/members with leadership training to effectively lead their clubs on campus, plan their monthly activities for the school year, and participate in team building and fun activities.
