Marijuana

What is it?

Marijuana refers to a plant called Cannabis sativa which is commonly known for its mind-altering ingredient, delta-9 tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). People use marijuana by smoking, eating, drinking or inhaling it.

What's the law?

In California, Prop 64 legalized recreational use for users 21 and over, and for those who are 18 with a physician’s recommendation for medicinal use. However, using cannabis in public and driving under the influence of cannabis remains illegal.

It is illegal for anyone under the age of 18 to use or possess marijuana. Minors in possession of marijuana are required to complete a drug education course and community service hours. If a minor is caught in possession of marijuana on school grounds, the minor and their parents will receive a citation.
